2 x 3 contingency table

I wish to be able to compute the appropriate sample size for a 2 x 3 contingency table,
given the expected proportions in each cell, a stringent significance level and a power
of 0.85 (or whatever). I understand that there are power functions for 2 x 2 tables in the
literature but have been unable to locate any work on 2 x 3 (or k x r) tables.

Any pointers or advice would be appreciated (I won't have to do this by simulation will I!)

Many thanks
