My most sincere and most numerous thanks to ALL who've responded
to my request for an explanation (n versus n-1).
I've had so many responses, some brief and some quite involved,
that I won't be able to read them all at one sitting.
I've glanced at them all already, but quite a few of them
require STUDY.  To all those who obviously spent a good deal
