I am currently taking a course in Simulation using the SLAM II software.
We were responsible for shelling out the $54 for:

        Introduction to: Simulation and SLAMII
        A. Alan B. Pritsker
        Halsted Press (John Wiley)   &   System Publishing Corp.
        New York                         West Lafayette, IN

and another $52 for:

        Computer Simulation
        Hugh J. Watson & John H. Blackstone
        John Wiley
        ISBN: 0-471-88287-9
        New York

Watson's book has a good overview, with examples for GPSS, SLAM, GEMS,
LOTUS, and Fortran.  There is a Instructor's manual, although my
professor has not been able to locate it.  And it does come with a
floppy with programs for the above.  It only contains one chapter on
SLAM and you will probably overtake it in a day or two.

Pritsker's text moves very quickly and covers the ground needed.
