		POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN STATISTICS

The University of Adelaide, South Australia invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a 2-year project funded by the
University Research Scheme on the Analysis of Variability.  The project
will explore the inter-relationships between quasi-likelihoods, residual
maximum likelihood and variance components.  In particular, it will look at
the modelling of dispersion parameters and the way in which this influences
the estimation of the mean of the process.  It is envisaged that the
theoretical aspects of the study will be complemented by the application of
these methods to data, largely derived from the consulting activities of
the Department.  The research team includes Prof Richard Jarrett, Dr Patty
Solomon, Dr Ari Verbyla and Dr Bill Venables.

Applicants should possess a Ph. D. (or equivalent) in statistics and wish 
to undertake research in this field.  Experience in statistical consulting 
would be useful but is not required.
