I am looking for doctoral programs of Statistics with faculty involved in stochastic process analysis and sequential analysis. Here at Argonne, there is a program for cooperative research. The program is this: the grad student goes to through the University's program for three or four years and then returns to Argonne for the dissertation. The key however is the faculty research advisor who directs the dissertation. Argonne pays the department while the student is working on the dissertation and as I understand some departments let the research advisor have the money as part of his/her research grant money. The problem that I am having is finding American universities that are willing to offer a TA or fellowship position for the first 3 or 4 years that also has a faculty member who is willing to cooperate on the project. Maybe I haven't done a very good job looking, but I have gotten pretty luke-warm responses. If I get no response from this ad I will have confirmed my suspicions. I'll also be packing my bags since several foreign universities seem quite interested. This is sort of disappointing. This country seems to be going downhill fast. Gone are the days of American dominance of the educational world. Boy am I bitter. Don't let that rub you the wrong way. Please, any faculty member that is interested in this field respond. This area is of the utmost importance to Argonne and many other industries as well(by the way Argonne is an Energy research facility--Nuclear energy). Rodney
