Dear Netters

thankyou all to everyone who replied to my original post: I should have posed
the query BEFORE I started to teach the course! Most replies said that the 
teaching of statistics to beginners was always difficult and that the change of 
emphasis away from traditional lectures to a more experimental presentation 
helped students see the relevance of the material. If I ever am called upon to 
teach the course again, I shall try this approach. Thanks again,
