From a layman, I'm quite religious in cleaning, flossing etc etc, but no matter
how hard I try I always end up with a slow but gradual build up of tartar,
stained from coffee and smoke. Apart from the obvious solution, is there
a way to remove these stains and whiten the teeth. Even after visiting
the dentist for a scale and polish there are still areas which have
light brown stains! Also are there any products which really do help
keep these stains at bay. This may sound all a bit vain but once the
stains start to reappear I become very consious of them
Thanks

Ask your dentist about bleaching. It may be appropriate for you if the
stains are not too dark.

I have severely discolored teeth due to taking Tetracycline as a child.
My dentist told me bleaching wouldn't help in my case, so I eventually
had bonding done on 6 upper teeth. I got estimates from several dentists
ranging from $40/tooth to $180/tooth! Since insurance doesn't cover this
I chose the $40/tooth dentist. I am thrilled with the results.
