How to proof a theory?

Hello everybody,

Assumed someone had found out something new. He's got an idea
about how something specific could/an idea about, what the reason
for something. I.e. he could imagine, his idea could be the base
for a new theory.

How could he proof it? What should be his steps?


Assumed you were a student. You'd never expected to discover
something new, ever. You assume, it could be the base of a new
theory. So you have to decide, what to do next.

Yes, i know, it's very improbably, but what if _is_ a base for a
new theory?
