I want to do some experiments with solar collection. The specs of Edmund Scientific's fresnel lenses are surface area, focal length, and lines per inch. How does one figure which lens would give the highest power density (W/m^2) (hottest spot). I used this formula Area / (Pi (f A)^2). This gives a relative power density into a lens with the power desity of the focused image. Does this make sense? Edmund Scientific told me that the only thing that mattered was the number of lines per inch. The lower the better (counter-intuitive isn't it). Given that the lines per inch are equal, the power densities will be equal. I have a hard time believing this? Any help would be appreciated. -- ------------------------------------------------------- | Richard B.
