Bryozoans (moss animals) are colonial aquatic organisms (eg like corals) that are usually found firmly attached to substrates such as rocks on the seabed. However, scientists have found masses of what apppeared to be brown golf balls floating in the Weddell Sea in the Antarctic. These turned out to be a floating form of a bryozoan colony, the first ever recorded and possibly a new species. Find out more in an illustrated article (with SEM photos from the scientists who discovered it) in this month's issue of... Micscape - the monthly Microscopy and Biology on-line magazine. URL < http://www.demon.co.uk/micscape/ > (go to Articles page). (A non-profit making mag for students, naturalists and anybody wishing to learn about the microscopic world around us). Also in this month's issue are downloadable movie-clips (with viewer) and a new section for schools. Thanks for your attention.
