Congress is planning to slash the budget for non-defense R&D by 8% in FY 96 and 33% by 2002. This would affect science programs at the Environmental Protection Agency, NOAA, NASA, and the Departments of Energy, Agriculture and Interior. Hundreds of cooperating scientists would be affected. Environmental science is the major target of the budget cuts, but many other successful programs are endangered, too. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has just put new info on this on its WWW page. The adress is: http://www.nrdc.org/nrdc If you want further info, e-mail nrdcnycomm@igc.apc.org or call (212)727 4407. Jens Jacobsen
