Associate Principal Engineer
Position ID:  VM-2
Position Summary - Principal Investigator, Optical switch technologies

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Investigate all types of optical switch technologies, including 1XN and
matrix switches.

Investigations may include laboratory analysis of vendor components, 
development of novel switching technolgoies, initiation into 
partnerships with third parties, etc.  Collaborate with the firms optical 
network architect to develop applications consistent with Ciena's market.  
This collaboration will include investigating and advising on optical 
networking, including dynamic add/drop multiplexing, optical 
cross-connects, etc

Skills

Expert in optical, electro-optical and electronic technologies.  Expert in
switching architectures.  Familiarity with WDM communications 
systems.

Education/Experience
PhD and demonstrated ability to do original hands-on research.
Four years telecommunications industry experience.
