If there is one thing Gene taught all of us, it was to never stop dreaming. There is a glimmer of hope for the future, if we choose to take action now and stop this mayhem of politicians pushing the buttons. We can bring about world peace, we can encourage space exploration and scientiffic research. Science fiction often become science fact ... in terms of Star Trek, some of it already has. Old-style TOS communicators are a step away from today's cell phones; the military studied the layouts of the various areas of TOS Enterprise and, if memory serves, mimicked bridge layout in some military centers. Even the wondrous tricorder is working its way into science fact. A prototype remote sensing device capable of detecting body temperature, heart beat, breathing, and other vital signs has been designed and built already, and they are working on improvements. So hat's off to Gene Roddenberry and his vision of the future!
