Yes, definitions. I think it was Fermi who came up with neutrinos. If he thought a photon would account for his observations I'm sure he would have stated so. But he didn't, he was *forced* to come up with a new particle to explain his observations, which he named neutrino. > umm hate to tell you this, but alpha radiation is just a helium > nucleus(ie 2 nuetrons and 2 protons). alpha radiation is most > definitely > a particle and does not act like a wave in anyway. and since > when is baseballs considered radation??? Uh, yeah alpha radiation is a helium nucleus. It has a wavelength. Beta radiation is just an electron. I guess you don't know the definition of radiation. It means "that which radiates" nothing more nothing less. Last time I checked baseballs radiate from pitchers. Missles radiate from planes, rocket launchers and a few other things... Light radiates from the sun. The wavelength of a baseball fast pitch is like 10E-34 cm. Intel invented heavy ion lithography because the wavelength of the beam lets them draw circuits 0.07 microns across. You can't get that small with X-ray lithography. Its the dual particle/wave nature of matter. > > The wavelength is dependent on the velocity > > and the mass. Mathematically, the only massless particle that *can* exist is the photon. For there to be otherwise violates certain QED equations that I don't know the names of but define and explain the dual particle/wave nature of matter. Everything, and I mean everything, that moves obeys these equations. Therefore neutrinos must have some mass, no matter how small.
