Are you an American Physical Society member who lives in Congressman Pete Stark's congressional district? Would you like to visit Congressman Stark during the August Congressional recess to discuss national science policy? The APS office of Public Affairs organizes a few "Congressional Visit Days" every year to encourage APS members to keep their representatives informed about the views of physicists. Since I am the only person to have volunteered to visit Pete Stark, I will be coordinating this year's visit. This offer is open to all US citizens (potential voters) who belong to APS no matter whether they have PhDs, are unemployed, work in industry, are graduate students, etc. My preference is to have as diverse a group as possible (not necessarily ethnically and racially, but in terms of age and employment) just to demonstrate that physicists are not a narrow special interest but that they contribute to the local econnomy in a variety of ways. The visit would likely take one hour or so and occur at Stark's office in Hayward sometime between August 9 and September 7th. Probably we will meet with one of his staff rather than with the Congressman himself (this is not bad). Please send me mail or call me ASAP if you are interested! We need to get on Stark's calendar soon. Thanks. -- Alison Chaiken alison@wsrcc.com (510) 422-7129 [daytime] or chaiken@cmsgee.llnl.gov It's the research, stupid.
