Dynamic equilibrium in general: the amount of what goes in equals
that wich goes out.
Dynamic equilibrium in thermodynamics: extensive parameters in a
box stay constant; that is incoming and outgoing flows are equal;
or extensive parameter sources equal out the vanishing in the box.
Entropy DOESN'T stay constant; that is dynamic equilibrium is
for conserved extensive properties.
Chemists (and therefore biochemists) often use this expression;
in the case of two counter-running but equally fast chemical
reactions (wich can be described thermodynamically).
This is not something I tought up; you can find that in books.
It seems most other posters in this thread know about it.
In the case of life; a single organism is not in equilibrium:
the I/O amounts of oxygen, C2O, proteins etc. is not equal;
nor energy: chemical burning/photosynthesis is at work.
But the biosphere as a whole is near a dynamic equilibrium:
(almost) the same amount of energy comes in from the Sun and
gets radiated away; same amounts of C2O and oxygen are absorbed
or exhaled etc.
Bye
