Double. Then you're really sunk if you make one mistake and don't have a backup. So that makes triple. And then you have to solve the wallclock time problem. You can spend the eternity backing up your universe or you can spend wallclock time executing the universe. Doing both slows the elapsed time of both because you have to divide the processing time available between the two jobs. Now, if you have another job so that you can watch what goes on, you now have to split the processing time three ways. Then there are other needs that crop up when you get bored and want to do something useful while waiting for the universe to evolve. That makes four, five... jobs. And, thus, our timesharing OS matured, providing computing services to more people in less elapsed time. /BAH
