Question is, in what universe do you store the computer that runs your
simulated universe?

The universe is indeed a discrete computer (cellular automaton),
meaning that it is both the hardware (particles) and the software
(principles of operation).

The question regarding how many bits it would take to digitize the
universe is not nearly as interesting as: what are the constituents,
what are their intrinsic properties and under what principles do they
operate?

It is about time that we move to a physics that looks at nature from
the POV of the particles rather than that of some dumb observer or
some FOR that the particles could not possibly give shit about. One
man's opinion

PS. Good topic.
