In this context, "light" exists in one state only, or it doesn't exist at all. It doesn't start out at 0 (zero) velocity, it starts at C. The only way to slow it down is to transmit it through a "medium". Make of that what you will. > Yet textbooks have been written that pretend absolute knowledge, > and scientists have been lauded (e.g. Maxwell, Einstein), etc. ... all > because their findings had satisfied the criteria of a primitive science > age (by today's standards). Don't criticize the present in the context of an unknown and unknowable future because that's an absurd position to try to argue. The "textbook understanding" of science today answers today's known technological needs. Tomorrow's textbooks will be responsive to tomorrow's needs just as the past's textbooks answered those needs. If you'll think about this in a context that seems alien to you based on your postings over the years, in the past century or so, science has led technology where in earlier times technology led science.
