We accept boats and seas, cars and roads, yet reject the aether, thus
postulating an absurdity. Maybe bells can ring *simultaneously* at
different locations prompted by neither or even preempted, but we need
to have a medium of some sort, even if they are taking short-cuts
beyond our mensuration for it not to be just magic. Epistemologist
will not jump the gun, I hope!
