This is a call for any information, advise, help, collaboration
or selling offer.
For the reason explained bellow, I need a CH2 (polyethylene)
target depletted in Deuterium (99.999 % pure proton, at least)
and about 0.2 mg/(square cm) thick.
It's quite easy to get either CD2 target or pure H2 gas, but,
up to now, nobody has been able to provide us with a pure CH2
target. Does someone know how to produce some?
We are actually measuring (p,gamma) reactions cross section
using radioactive beams. So we always have to work in
reverse kinematic. We usually use CH2 target but the
natural deuterium in it induces a significant contamination.
Indeed, althought there is only 1 D atom per 10000 protons,
the cross section for (d,n) reaction processing by
nuclear interaction and thus being far larger, the number
of counts comming from deuterium and from protons are
roughly the same. This makes data analysis very difficult,
especially when we are dealing with very low cross-section
and low beam currents. A CH2 target depletted in deuterium
would be of huge help.
Thank you,
JsG
