While everyone is hashing over this repayment issue, I'd like to find out if anyone has been successful in getting school loans deferred during a postdoc. I currently have a training grant fellowship (NSF). The administrators in charge of our grant do not know of any category I might fit in to keep my loans deferred. Since I'm on first year NIH scale, and borrowed all the way through college, it's either pay loans or pay the rent. My grace period is up in August, so I have a few months to try to devise something. The biggest problem I see is that to fit into the acceptable deferment groups, either some medical training must be involved (none in my case), or an official certification must be given at the end of the fellowship (not in my case either). Any advice?
