Which story was debunked in 1992?  That there was a press conference in 
1993?  Or, that violence increases during football games?  If the former, 
please supply a citation.  If the later, please explain why a group of 
women's organizations held a press conferece in 1993 and repeated it.

But the press conference was the reason *Good Morning America* picked up 
the story, along with other mainstream papers.

She did not say that it was the first time the UL was ever told.  She 
started with the press conference was the cause of the flurry of stories 
in the media which accepted it as fact without checking the sources.  She 
was not interested in tracking down the origins of a UL, she was 
illustrating how the media *uncritically* accepts stories from the 
women's orginizations.
