Victoria, BC - Daffodil pickers needed urgently for Vantreight Farms

Vantreight Farms on the Saanich is desperate for experienced pickers as
the fields start to blossom.

In past years they have flown migrant farm workers in from Quebec and
Mexico, leading to a culture clash. The Quebecois work with their shirts
off while the Mexicans bundle up in jackets and warm hats in the green
fields.

   "Warm enough for you?
    ...
The cherry trees in Fairfield are giving off a heady perfume for
those enjoying a little exercise. And daffodils are blooming more
    than two weeks early.

"We're starting to pick our early varieties" [of daffodils], Ian
Vantreight of Vantreight Farms said Monday.

Later in the week or next week, well be going full force.

The warm weather has boosted the daffodil season two to three weeks
ahead of normal, Vantreight said. In the past, an early season has
caused problems for the Canadian Cancer Society, which relies on
daffodils from the farm still being around in April, cancer-awareness
    month."

Vantreight farm is north of Victoria, and a bit colder. Daffodils in my yard
have been in bloom for weeks, some over 50 cm high now.

Snowdrops have been up for a while, followed by Blue Bells and an
ornamental cherry tree in my yard.

Even on the East Coast, the Gulf of St. Lawrence is still mostly
ice free, at a time of year when freighters usually have to move
in convoys led by a Canadian Coast Guard Ice Breaker.

And still the denial goes on.

Time to go mow my lawn again.

making gigabucks the same old way.
