Good question. They goals have already been set very seriously. It's all about money and national security. Their primary goal is technological break through in medical, agriculture, military information warfare, material engineering and long term establishment in outer space to conduct experiments no possible on earth. These researchs are crucial for the areas of high technologies which will contribute immersely to economic competitiveness. Economic is all about transfering technology into products you can sell on the market. Their primary goal for next century is the Moon and Mars landing. Manned or unmanned is not sure at this stage. Given the economic might China will posses, overtaking US in GDP (ppp) by 2008, there is no reason to doubt China cannot do what Americans have done. Michael P.
