My experience as a civil servant is that I could increase my salary by
25-30% by moving to
industry. I have NEVER, and I have checked several times, found a job for
which I was
qualified which did not offer more in salary, benefits etc. If anything
these days, industry
offers more security and stability in some fields as Government work. The
"old" days of
a "good government job" i.e. security and a decent wage are OVER. If
anyone is getting
rich in government these days it is the political appointees, senior
executives, and
outright crooks. The rank and file are existing and perhaps even make some
minor
headway here and there but no one is getting rich.
