Does this mean that you would have fought the Gulf War with nuclear weapons, or that you wouldn't have fought it at all? There is more to the role of the military than defending direct attacks against the heartland. > In other words, 80% of the $3 trillion was completely wasted on a > parasitic and cancerous entity, whose waste makes up most of the $6 > trillion plus national debt and is most of the reason for the looming > national bankruptcy, and who, ironically, is the biggest threat to > national security as U.S. society collapses from within. Completely wasted, eh? So you want to use 1965 technology forever? Research to keep the arsenal up to date is completely wasted? Building new equipment to replace worn-out equipment is wasted? > When a mean-spirited Social Security adjudicator denies someone who is > genuinely disabled, you can look in the mirror and take some of the blame. Social Security + Medicare is the biggest threat to a balanced budget, not the military. Congress can cut the military budget at any time, but so-called "entitlements" are much harder to control. Demographics predict major problems 20 years out even if the Republican plan is fully enacted. It doesn't go far enough, yet it already has provoked a firestorm of protest. I also question how many of the Social Security and Medicare recipients are not really in need due to outside incomes. Would you support a means test/pauper's oath as a condition of getting SS/Medicare? > When an elderly person is treated callously by some bureaucrat, > you can take some of the blame for that as well You in the military can > take most of the blame for the need for Republicans to be making mean > and hurtful cuts to the disabled, indigent and others now, even as I > type this. And I used to wonder how we got into this mess. :-( Watch the blame shift, folks.... /-------------------------------------------------------------------\ | Catherine Mancus <cathy@zorac.cary.nc.us> | | PP-SEL, N5WVR "God is a sponge." | \-------------------------------------------------------------------/
