Hell, Pat, let's just give everyone the bomb. We'll get there real soon anyway: if North Korea manages to use nuclear blackmail to conquer South Korea, whose nuclear program we discouraged in the interests of non-proliferation, many countries around the world will get the message that "proliferation to _us_ means our continued existance instead of conquest by someone else who has the bomb." In spite of a lot of official denial by U.S. officials that it couldn't be, South Africa had the bomb. Details are fishy about where they tested it, although you can rest assured that the NSF panel that studied those suspicious Vela burst detections in the South Indian Ocean wasn't biased. (wink, wink...). Heck, people were suprised to find out that SWEDEN had produced nuclear bomb "kits" that would have been rapidly assembled into working devices in the event of invasion. I wouldn't be suprised if S. Korea or Taiwan were considering the same course of action; they know they probably can't rely on the U.S. I don't know if any of this is a good idea or not, but you can rest assured that our policies have lead to this set of possibilities. -- Phil Fraering "I did not eat Sir Eglemore.
