Today I received John Manley's answer to my correspondence of Feb 22, 1995. While very short, his letter did offer some promise. It particular, he offered me the opportunity to meet with Mr. Mac Evans, President of the Canadian Space Agency, and Ms. Diana Durnford, Mr. Manley's Special Assistant-Policy sometime "in the coming weeks to discuss these important issues.". His letter was very polite, apologizing for the delay and generally implying that he is quite open-minded concerning the issues I have brought up in my various correspondences. Of course, I immediately telephoned the minister's office to accept the offer - I would guess that the meeting will be held sometime in June. Meanwhile, I am open to suggestions about what I should bring up in this meeting. Of course, I have my own list of things to cover but I would appreciate any constructive ideas that any of you may have concerning what we should include in our discussions. I would also be happy to print out and pass on to these people any e-mails that you post or send to me directly supporting the manned space program in Canada. Of course it is certainly possible that nothing useful will come of this meeting. However, I feel that it is an important step forward in getting our voices heard by those who can really set and change Canada's space policy. Personally, I know of no "ordinary citizen" space activist who has had this kind of opportunity before. With your help I hope to make this a useful and progressive meeting. Any ideas? Tom Harris

Of course, I have my own list of things to cover... Trim the list down mercilessly so it is as short as humanly possible. The more issues you try to talk about, the less impact you will have on any single issue. (Also, the more issues you seem to care about, the more tempting it will be to try to mollify you by promising action on an easy one and "studying" the rest.) If you do end up with more than one, try to tie them together somehow, so they become aspects of one central issue. -- There is a difference between | Henry Spencer cynicism and skepticism. | henry@zoo.toronto.edu
