Get together with your local Amateur Radio Club and see if you can't
participate in SAREX (the Space Amateur Radio EXperiment) which is
sponsored by NASA.  See if you can't make contacts with Amsat (the Amateur
Radio Satellite).  Come up with the requirements for a satellite and have
your students do research into the general design for such a satellite,
mass, type of launch vehicle, cost of launch, etc.  Have them design
experiments for some of the various student experimentation programs 
put into orbit on the shuttle by NASA ('cept you're Canadian, but I'm not
sure it's limited to US students, and that may be changing with NAFtA anyway)
