You might try Axum Technical Graphics and Data Analysis software by Trimetrix, Inc. I have found this to be the best package available for combining flexibility and ease of use. I have used this program since version 1.0, and have only been pleased with it. The company is not one of the big names, but Axum is compatible with just about any Windows software out there and it makes document incorporation a breeze. I am not connected with the company in anyway. I am a returning grad student and a former tech writer and auditor, and a really happy customer. I have also heard pretty good things about MathCad, but I can't vouch for it personally. Good Luck, Robbin
