      For sale:

   1) ZEISS BRASS MICROSCOPE -- large continental stand scope, c. 1883,
signed "Carl Zeiss, Jena. No. 7513." Original bright-brass
laquered finish above stage; black enamel on Continental brass
base (deep "U" with tail.) Height 12" (min.) extending to 17.25"
using calibrated draw tube and rack-and-pinion coarse focus.
Calibrated fine focus wheel on back post. Three-lens objective
turret. Substage assembly includes condenser and moveable
      apertures.

Accessories included: two substage mirrors 2" dia.; two ocu-
      lars, three objectives (Zeiss dry achromatic nos. A, D, and F);
alternative substage systems; through-the-lens illumination system
      for opaque subjects.

Scope and accessories are housed in fitted mahogany case, dimen-
      sions 9.75" x 5.5" x 15.5" (case has minor crack near keyhole.)

An example of this type of microscope can be seen in the Catalog
of the Billings Collection (Armed Forces institute of Pathology),
fig. 138. Bearing in mind that there is no such thing as a brand
new antique microscope, this instrument is in very fine working
      condition.

      price $1000.00

   2) LEITZ OBJECTIVE LENS SET and SWIFT OIL-IMMERSION OBJECTIVE -- set of
ten Leitz brass objective lenses dating from approximately the end of
the 19th century. Each is housed in an individual threaded brass case.
All are signed "E. Leitz Wetzlar." The set is a complete numbered
sequence, nos. 1 through 10 (no. 10 being a water immersion lens, ser.
no. 87353.) These lenses fit the Zeiss microscope described above or
any other scope with standard association screw threads.

Also included is a high quality English oil immersion objective
lens from the same time period, signed "1/12 In OIL IMM. N. A.
1.25 J. SWIFT & SON LONDON", with threaded brass case.

None of these objectives has been optically bench-tested, but
as far as can be determined by actual viewing of specimens they
are in very fine working condition. All of the lenses are of
excellent external appearance and most of the Leitz set appear
      never to have been used.

      price $900.00
