The topic will be on the crystallography, phase transitions and physical properties of certain perovskite-based oxide crystals, and the techniques to be used will include x-ray/neutron diffraction and optical microscopy/birefringence studies. This studentship is funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, and is available to UK and EEC nationals only. The students should be qualified in physics, chemistry or crystallography. The conditions of the grant are that UK students are fully funded (university/college fees plus maintenance allowance). For non-UK EEC nationals only the university/college fees are paid and so it is necessary for such students to have their own maintenance funds, which are estimated to be approximately 5000 pounds per year. Interested candidates should e-mail me (glazer@physics.ox.ac.uk) in order to receive application forms. Professor A.M.
