Posted to scot.announce, ed.general, scot.general, uk.rec.photo.misc New additions to the web site (URL at the end of this text) include but aren't necessarily limited to: ** all digital ** (In the Edinburgh Index page) Gandhi 649 x 600 151K bronze bust of Mahatma Gandhi - Apostle of non-violence (Cramond, Cammo and Colinton) Turnhouse 1024 x 768 124K Taken from near Turnhouse Farm, just north of Edinburgh Airport. The main railway line to the north fades into the mist. Some landing lights are visible nearby. (2 pictures) Scotland Colour Page 2 Avon Aqueduct 1024 x 768 241K A large high-resolution image showing the plant-life which has colonised the stonework. If you prefer a smaller file, there's a 668 x 600 122K version. Avon Aqueduct 1024 x 768 121K This west-facing view shows the Union Canal where the aqueduct carries it over the River Avon. Canal boat 1024 x 768 204K This passenger-carrying boat leaves from Linlithgow and visits the aqueduct. There's a pleasant walk between Polmont and Linlithgow, too. Canal 1024 x 768 219K Across the other side of the canal is this large pool. This is on the Polmont side of the aqueduct. Its purpose is presumably for boats to turn round for the return journey to Linlithgow. Swans 800 x 600 111K One of the families of swans which live here. Five cygnets in a straight line. ** scanned negatives from 1979/80 ** Edinburgh City Centre page 5 New Palace 537 x 768 87K This is in the High Street near the World's End pub and the Museum of Childhood, opposite John Knox's house. Originally a cinema, it was McGoo's in the 1960's when I saw The Who perform there. The Pleasance 1024 x 642 167K I believe that's Drummond Street at the left, with part of the old city wall. Worth looking at if only to see how different The Pleasance looks today. Tollcross 519 x 600 82K Another frankly unattractive picture. This spot has been much favoured by Carlsberg drinkers over the years. In the background is the foot of Lauriston Place before the current brick tenements and shops were erected. The back of Glen Street is visible. W Approach 800 x 569 174K That giant car park is now Princes Square and the adjacent shiny new financial buildings. There's a more complete edit of this negative - 1024 x 680 and 253K in size, showing more foreground and more of the Caledonian Hotel. Tron/ High St 1024 x 684 190K Included here mainly as a record of how it looked in 1979. My daughter and son remained obligingly still whilst passers-by moved in blurs. Edinburgh City Centre page 6 High School Yards 1024 x 768 217K Near the bottom of Infirmary Street, close to the Cowgate at the foot of St Mary's Street. They'd be Corporation houses then - dunno what they are now... Princes St Gdns 800 x 600 103K The Ross Bandstand's stage is draped with a sign proclaiming 'New Life in Christ'. A slightly smaller sign peeps out from below advising readers ... Beer Tent 1024 x 768 184K This was in Princes Street Gardens. Bowler Dude 557 x 768 116K I shared a seat in Princes Street with this gentleman. He reminds me of the actor Bill Fraser who played Sergeant Snudge in an old TV comedy series called Bootsie and Snudge. Chat-up 1024 x 768 219K An office worker comes to East Princes Street Gardens in her lunch hour and gets propositioned by an Einstein lookalike? Add your own speech-bubble to this picture! Edinburgh Main page 2 Gilmerton Rd 800 x 600 104K A Monkey Puzzle tree and recent snow combine to give this bungalow its strange appearance. Edinburgh Main page 3 Millars 0 483 x 768 87K This was how Millars confectionery factory looked in 1984, from the back of 166 Causewayside. This was where they made their brand of peppermint imperials called Pan Drops. Millars 2 1024 x 603 97K A wide view of the scene described above. Millars 4 724 x 768 143K From the same viewpoint but with a standard lens. Two employees are standing on the roof. Blackford Hill and the Pentland Hills are in the distance. Millars 3 526 x 712 86K A close-up of the brick tower. Lothians & Borders page 2 B709 0 800 x 600 135K This used to be a favourite slow drive home, for me, after a day as a field engineer in the Borders. (2 more similar) Seacliffe 800 x 600 141K Boys jumping into the tiny harbour in the summer of 1979. Lasswade 1024 x 684 190K Yes, there was colour film in the seventies; that's what most people used - I preferred black and white mostly. That's the River North Esk flowing through the village. regards, Dave -- 100% Original digital & silver-based photos Unique 3D rendered images + Herb animation http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/david.henniker/ email:make DOT .
