Posted to scot.announce, ed.general, scot.general, uk.rec.photo.misc Latest updates to the web site (URL at the end of this text) include: *** NEW COOLSCAN SECTION *** Lothian and surrounding areas. Not including all-digital photos and scanned prints. All photographed in the late 1970s. Auchendinny 647 x 768 132K The village near Milton Bridge near Penicuik. Crighton Castle 519 x 768 124K Not far from Pathhead on the A68 road south of Edinburgh. I think I originally did a sepia-toned print of this, in which the castle stonework resembled a bar of chocolate. Galashiels 665 x 768 123K The winter of 1978/9 has left its mark in the form of snow-drifts along the dry-stone dykes on the hillside. Viaduct 1 800 x 600 66K There used to be a railway in the Borders and this disused viaduct carried trains across the River Tweed between Earlston and Newtown St Boswells. Viaduct 2 800 x 600 119K This is how it looks closer up, near the back road to Melrose. Trees Snow 1024 x 688 215K or 800 x 538 103K This line of trees beside the A701 created amazing shadows on the immaculate white snow. Taken in the winter of 1978/9 with a 24mm lens. Calmer Soutra 1024 x 768 158K or 800 x 600 87K Soutra Hill on the A68 driving south towards Oxton. Same winter as the previous picture. The morning sunshine is melting the snow. A calmer day, eh? Leader 514 x 768 178K That's pronounced as in lead - the metal. I called this picture of trees that because I vaguely remember it being beside the Leader Water, a tributary of the River Tweed, I believe. *** Additions to the Coolscan Edinburgh City Centre section *** Blair Street 1024 x 682 197K Waverley Cameron and their enamelled signs advertising pens. There was also a metal merchant nearby, if memory serves correctly... Niddry Street 800 x 723 162K To the left, behind the hoarding, is the vacant site now occupied by a hotel *** New in the Coolscan Edinburgh Main section *** Gilmerton Rd 800 x 600 104K A Monkey Puzzle tree and recent snow give this view of a bungalow its strange appearance. *** New in the Coolscan Leith section *** Buttercup 640 x 480 36K The Buttercup Dairy Company in or near Manderston Street. Not a particularly stunning photograph - only really here for historical interest. Manderston St 1024 x 768 176K This is how it used to look, back in 1978. That's Leith Walk along at the end of the road. The arches were part of the railway, which crossed Leith Walk on the bridge adjacent to Jane Street. Conservatives 1024 x 686 135K They actually had a political presence in Leith at this time, and here's a photo of their premises, squeezed in between a model shop, a pub and a pawnbrokers. *** New in the Coolscan Various section *** Waltzers 800 x 600 106K That was my daughter, son and first wife in that fairground waltzer. I can't remember the exposure I used - but it captured the movement OK. Self Bulb 800 x 600 74K Blatant plagiarism here - but at least I paid homage to Escher by including one of his pictures in the reflection. Snow Shadows 1024 x 768 183K The railings near the east end of Braid Hills Road cast interesting shadows on the drifted snow. Photographed in the winter of 1978/9. Six Ladies 1024 x 494 145K It was a warm day and this seat at the bottom of The Mound provided welcome rest for these women. That's the new stuff, uploaded today Sunday 25th July. The web site has grown to 44MB, virtually all of it 100% free, original photographs. Coming soon, all-digital colour photos of the Avon Aqueduct between Polmont and Linlithgow. regards, Dave. -- 100% Original digital & silver-based photos Unique 3D rendered images + Herb animation http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/david.henniker/ email:make DOT .
