Java on a Summer's Afternoon =
Thursday 29th August 1996 =
Tweed Horizons Centre, St. Boswells, Melrose =
=
Sponsored by: Interactive Media Alliance Scotland (IMAS) =
and British Computer Society (Edinburgh Branch) =
=
Escape the city and cultural overload and stimulate the parts other =
events cannot reach. Whether you are an experienced Java user, or =
still think Java is an island, a bird, or an exotic variety of =
coffee, Interactive Media Alliance Scotland (IMAS) in collaboration =
with the Edinburgh Branch of the British Computer Society invite you =
to refresh your knowledge centres and evaluate the potential of this =
much-publicised panacea. Is it really platform independent? How fast =
will it run on your ageing 486? How animated can it make you? =
Experienced users, including some who have staked their commercial =
future on the wide adoption of Java tools and applications, will =
describe and demonstrate what it is, what it does, and how it can =
help you. =
=
The venue is a hi-tech chapel in a former monastery on the banks of =
the Tweed, about an hour's drive from Edinburgh. The Tweed Horizons =
Centre was developed with support form Scottish Borders Enterprise as =
a base for companies committed to sustainable technology in all its =
varieties. Multimedia publishing is the business of Calligrafix, one =
of the first companies to take up occupancy in the centre, and Mike =
Forsyth of Calligrafix will be your host for the afternoon. There =
will be a registration charge of =A315 to cover facilities and =
refreshments. =
=
Completed application forms with remittance should be sent to Rose =
Dewar, Dept of Computing and Electrical Engineering, Heriot-Watt =
University, Edinburgh EH14 4AS, tel: 0131 451 3411, fax: 0131 451 =
