That's in Eskbank, not far from where I live. It has one *serious* disadvantage for a typical Festival-goer - it's seven miles out of town and there's no night bus service. You can get to every significant town or village within ten miles of Edinburgh after a late-night event *except* central and eastern Midlothian (Dalkeith/ Eskbank/Newbattle/Woodburn, Mayfield, Pathhead, Newtongrange and Gorebridge). The last scheduled bus leaves the city centre about 11.30 most nights, midnight on Sunday. The nearest you can get is Gilmerton on the city boundary, and then it's a scary two-mile walk along a partly-unlit, sometimes pathless narrow main road used all night by heavy trucks. (I suddenly found myself remembering a playground joke from New Zealand: why did the hedgehog cross the road? He wanted to show the world he had guts). Budget for taxis; expensive from the city centre, not too bad from Gilmerton, but hard to find one on a really busy night like the big fireworks display. (Use a car and you'll spend most of the festival trying to get it into town and park it). ========> Email to "j-c" at this site; email to "bogus" will bounce <======== Jack Campin: 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU; 0131 6604760 <http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/purrhome.html> food intolerance data & recipes, Mac logic fonts, Scots traditional music files and CD-ROMs of Scottish music.
