Ok, I just finished going through this with my home "network" system.

If you are going to hook it up that way you will need to purchase a IP
address for each computer from you cable modem service. And the Cable Modem
must be plugged into slot 1 which should be labeled "MDI" (I don't know what
it stands for). The computers go into the "MDI-X" ports. If you only have
one IP address then the first computer to grab the cable modem gets to use
it, the other one lost out and will not connect to the internet.

I suggest WIN98SE with Internet Connect Sharing. I set my system up his
way. The Cable Modem is plugged into the "Main" computer, Then the other
computer is connected with the hub (2 NICS in one computer, one for modem,
one for hub). Internet Connect Sharing switches the IP address as needed to
get all the computers connected at once and can share the same internet
connection.

Ok, I hope I made sense. If not write back.

John

Anyone heard of this..got a SOHOWARE (NDC) 10/100 networking kit, with
two pci fast ethernet cards and a hub. It's advertised as able to handle
the cable modem via the first port on the hub (with a switch for
uplink)..anyway it doesn't work. I can connect directly to the cable
modem (TCI/AT&T @home) and get in fine. However connecting the cable
modem to the hub doesn't work. I've tried a crossover cable between the
modem and hub, and it still won't connect to the internet. Any help
would be appreciated.
