Well, I'm no historian. But briefly (and with questionable
accuracy), Mussey Grade Road, prior to The building of Hwy 67,
was the main road from El Cajon and on to Julian. Similar to the
Old Julian Hwy now, Mussey Grade changed into a sleepy residential
bypass road.
Once the city of Sandy Eggo built the San Vicente dam and flooded
the valley, the northern end became access to the lake for
recreation. Danny's Fishing Village was the supplier of most of
the lake recreation support at the north end.
Currently a locked gate closes access to the public just south of
Danny's or Kittie's (as it's known now). Never has been past the
gate since living at the south end of the lake for the last 13
years. From my home I can almost see where the old road dips
into the lake.
