"What we have here is a seminar on how to communicate." Communication is the lifeblood of any organization. Without effective communication, nothing can be accomplished, from the implementation of high-level strategy to the effective handling of daily problems. The challenge of interpersonal communication is even greater today, when everything is moving at top speed. We tend to listen for the headlines while ignoring the rest of the message, and often respond in sound bytes while hoping the other person will somehow get the point. Because costly lawsuits, customer issues and internal conflicts often arise from communication breakdowns, we all need to learn how to listen and express ourselves effectively in this new high-speed reality. Working Communication is a 2-day seminar that will enable you to . . . Know when and how to listen to someone . . . and when not to listen. Align your messages with your personal style to create messages that others can clearly understand, and not only sound sincere . . . they are sincere! Communicate effectively in difficult situations: performance problems, manager-employee conflicts, confrontations, the delivery of unwelcome news. Effectively communicate within groups, across functions and organizational levels. Cost: The cost for this seminar is only $390, which includes a free 1-hour personal coaching session to be scheduled after the course. The fee for SF Chamber of Commerce members and participants from nonprofit organizations is $350. Dates and Times: January 19-20, February 16-17 or March 16-17, from 9:00 to 4:30. Location: All seminars will be held at Optima Offices, 1700 Montgomery St., Suite 111, San Francisco. If you are driving, there are two parking garages nearby on Francisco Street. Muni lines 15, 32 and 42 serve the area. Facilitator: Bob Mendonsa is president of RMM Organizational Change Services, a human development consultancy located in San Francisco. Bob has delivered hundreds of seminars on leadership, communication, change and performance to corporations and nonprofits, in both large and small organizations, at all organizational levels. Prior to opening his practice in 1995, Bob worked as an executive and manager for several Bay Area companies. To sign up for Working Communication, call 415-824-1911.
