If indeed they *do* have an "interstate" highway, which I don't know for sure and you should verify before making serious accusations such as this, then it's probably called that for reasons of Federal funding or some other political or financial reason. On the other hand, there may be secret plans to build a bridge to California, I don't really know. In any case, I would not lose too much sleep over this matter if I were you. The prospect of driving to Hawaii is not quite a reality yet. Now a question for you--do you people in Japan have enough to do over there? It seems like you have way too much time on your hands...
