I've thought about it for a couple of days and a seattle.foresale
group may not be a bad idea.

  PROS:
I provides a local ("HA" :-) ) forum for forsale items. At least
the items foresale are id'ed as being from the seattle area.

  CONS:
There is a (pnw|pdx).foresale group that carries out this function
currently. It is just a bigger and more widespread ("HA" again)
    forum than seattle.general

It may be difficult to get people to switch posting tactics ...

Other Thoughts:

While I have never used it, another possibility could be
to alias seattle.foresale to pnw.foresale. This would
still provide a wide forum and not require additional
newsgroups. It is definiately not the same thing however.

Just a miniute and I'll see if Brain R. has posted the newsgroup
  dist. stats.
