I recently got a music program for my PC and it was capable of reading Amiga format samples. The only problem is that I have 20 AMIGA-format disks full of great samples: the program CAN read Amiga format FILES but not Amiga format DISKS. Help! Please tell me where I can get a PC program which reads Amiga format disks and copies Amiga format files to PC disks (or hard disk). Thanks in advance! -- ***************************************************************************** TOPI YLINEN f1toyl@kielo.uta.fi ============================================================================= The brotherbeat to any bull-eyed bulbomasons with an applemeter of blunderblood in his veins... the philo-oxidative paygreen pathofinder, a terror firmly tiger-belted in a toad-twisting taxbus. *****************************************************************************

Of course an Amiga can read an msdos formatted disk (720k only) An Amiga can read 1.44 and 1.2 formatted disks if you have a HD 3 1/2 or HD 1/4 drive. If you can get access to an Amiga check out CrossDos (tm) it works wonders i use it all the time. > >Sorry for the bad news... > Just buy an amiga! ;) (I own both) >Dan > >-- >Dan Wolfson (Wolfsond@cse.fau.edu) > >"We'll always be remembered..... Some time ago someone wrote a shareware program to run Amiga text-only graphics on the PC. It was able to read Amiga disks. I've never done it myself, but on the other hand, I stuck DOS type disk drives in my Amiga, and they worked fine, so the drives themselves are compatible (unlike MAC-PC, which requires additional hardware on the part of the PC). Unfortunatelyu I no longer have this software, nor do I remember the name of it. william@cs.arizona.edu - D R A G O N -

Okie, I got so many replies from you guys that sending thanks via email (even with copied letters) would have taken hours... it seems that I will have to find a suitable victim (one of my friends who has an Amiga) and visit him... And many thanks for your bothering help me! Sorry Bill, but it is NOT possible to read Amiga format disks on the PC.
While it is possible to read MS-DOS disks on the Amiga, it is only because
it is relativily easy to re-program the disk controller on the Amiga to do
so. It is not so on the PC, because the controlling hardware different.
On the Amiga, the hardware controller can read in an entire track in one
revolution, so it can do away with most of the sync-ing and sector
information that needs to exist on the disk for a PC diskdrive to work. Why
do you think that the Amiga disks can hold 880K+ worth of data while a
regular PC disk can only hold 720K? (for a total difference of 160K in favor
of the Amiga).
Also, the Amiga doesn't have a text mode, while the PC does. Maybe you
wrote a program to run PC text-only graphics on the Amiga 8-)
