RESEARCH ASSISTANT IN WEB-BASED MATHEMATICAL SERVICES The Centre for Experimental and Constructive Mathematics (CECM - www.cecm.sfu.ca) is offering an RA on a by-semester basis. The position will support a variety of projects at the CECM, most with some Web components, developing and managing new and existing systems. Projects include digital publishing (camel.math.ca/CMS/Publications/), distributed collaboration environments (www.emediait.com), telelearning (www.cecm.sfu.ca/TLRN/), and on-line mathematics systems (www.cecm.sfu.ca/projects/). The successful applicant will have a mix of computing skills, including (but not necessarily) Web admin/cgi-bin experience, Perl, C, csh, HTML, JavaScript, Java, etc. Experience with the UNiX environment, specifically with Linux, will be highly regarded. A graduate student in mathematics, the sciences or computing sciences is preferred. It is expected that the position will require learning new technologies and developing new skills while on the job. This RA is for 20 hours weekly at $5000/semester but may be retooled to the applicant's availability. It is available immediately. This RA may lead to a full-time UNiX sys-admin/Web-admin position at competitive pay or at least full-time over the summer semester. It may also lead to an opportunity to work on advanced technologies at PolyLAB (www.polylab.sfu.ca). Applications should be sent to Jen Chang (cecm@cecm.sfu.ca) by March 1, 2000. We thank all applicants in advance and only those shortlisted will be contacted.
