John Soyring answered that last week. If you've got a direct
connection, you might want to grab the audio files of his
presentation from ftp://128.174.174.14/Soyring(about 35MB of
ZIP files).

For the first time, IBM is going to be going after departmental,
medium-sized businesses, and SOHO users. They are also
targetting Merlin at the "connected consumer." IBM's current
definition of this person seems to be someone who works
at home, but the inclusion of so much Internet related stuff
in Merlin seems to make that a little too narrow a view. Of
course, their targetting of the enterprise/large corporate
market goes without saying. However, as I mentioned, for the
first time they are going to be actively targetting "smaller"
companies and such as well.

Should we expect to see IBM going after the standalone, isolated
user who is may not really even know how to use a PC?
My _impression_ is that this will not be the case. Yes, many of
us would like IBM to go head-to-head with Windows 95 and
NT 4.0 on any and all levels. I don't see this happening and their
actions and words suggest this will not be the case. IBM is not
treating this as an "us or them" situation.
