From: Owner-OS2News@teamos2.org Subject: OS2News: Vinca StandbyServer for OS/2 Warp Orem, UT - February 20, 1996 - Vinca Corporation, a leading supplier of business continuation products, today announced StandbyServer for OS/2 Warp, a transaction-based server mirroring solution that delivers full server fault tolerance to the OS/2 Warp platform. The product allows a hot secondary server to be connected to the main server. If the main server fails, the standby machine takes over automatically. Now mission critical applications running on the OS/2 Warp platform, such as Lotus Notes, can be protected from expensive downtime. "Vinca has broadened the scope of the award-winning StandbyServer technology to not just protecting file servers, but to a leading application server platform, OS/2 Warp. " said Jay Carlson, president, Vinca Corporation. " Protecting application servers from downtime is especially critical because these servers have the data people need to do their job, such as vital databases or workgroup software, not just file and print services." StandbyServer for OS/2 Warp is a real-time, transaction-based solution that mirrors data simultaneously to a standby machine via a high-speed dedicated link. When the main server fails, due to any hardware or software failure, the product automatically switches, with no manual intervention, to the standby machine and users have access to all data on the main server. In addition, StandbyServer for OS/2 Warp is specifically designed to take full advantage of the remote notification and monitoring features in NetFinity, IBM's powerful systems management software. These user-definable features give the network manager the ability to customize notifications that can be received on a remote workstation or a digital pager when a server fails. Network managers can also monitor critical information during normal operation or during a switch over from the standby machine.
