Shrinkage isn't rampant here, but we're so small that every theft really
hurts. The fancier, foreign, and more expensive periodicals seem to be
irresistable to some people: El Croquis, Architecture + Urbanism, AA
Files, l'Architecture d'aujourd'hui, etc. Fortunately there is some logic
to the thefts, so precautions can be taken. At any moment there are one or
two architecture stars whose every publication has tremendous importance
to our patrons. Most recently here it was Rem Koolhaas. It was impossible
to keep anything in the stacks. Articles about his projects were razored
out of magazines. But he seems to be over, now. Nobody's bothered to even
try to steal his latest monograph.

Books are much less of a problem. But there's something about the Le
Corbusier Complete Works that make people crazy. I have to replace volumes
every year. It's certainly a "classic," and filled with material, and
presented in an elegant, slim format.

Your topic is very interesting to me. Please keep us posted as to your
findings!
