   WASHINGTON, May 2 -- On Thursday, May 12, the
National Archives will dedicate a state-of-the-art archival
facility in College Park, Md. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
at the new building, the National Archives at College Park, located
at 8601 Adelphi Rd.
   The ceremony will be hosted by Acting Archivist of the United
States Trudy Huskamp Peterson. "This year, we celebrate the
dedication of this impressive new facility, as well as the 60th
anniversary of the National Archives," said Peterson. "It is
an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to our mission of preserving
the nation's documentary heritage for current and future
generations."
   Other speakers include Paul S. Sarbanes, United States senator,
Maryland; Barbara A. Mikulski, United States senator, Maryland;
Steny H. Hoyer, member of Congress, fifth district of Maryland;
William Donald Schaefer, governor, state of Maryland; Parris
Glendening, county executive, Prince George's County, Maryland;
Dr. William E. Kerwin, president, University of Maryland at College
Park; and Dr. Jean-Pierre Wallot, president, International Council
on Archives.
   The National Archives at College Park has been open to
researchers since Jan. 3, when the Nixon Presidential Materials
Project reopened. In addition to the Nixon Project, the new
facility will house a number of the National Archives special
collections, including the John F. Kennedy Assassination Act
Collection and the Supreme Court Audio Tape Collection.
    ------
   Note: On Wednesday, May 4, there will be a press tour of
the National Archives at College Park. This will be the only
opportunity for members of the press to take a behind-the-scenes
tour of the new facility before the May 12 dedication ceremony.
The press is also invited to cover the dedication ceremony.
Contact the National Archives Public Affairs staff at 202-501-5525
to reserve a space on the tour or for additional information
on the ceremony.

Thanks for the post. As a neighbor to the Archives II, I have had to
put up with all the construction, traffic, & dump truck mud!! from the
erection of this building. I was just wondering if the Archives will have
an open house for the public soon? Is that what the May 12 dedication is?
Anyone?
