i wonder if anyone out there can help me: i ordinarily leave my old
northgate 386 computer turned on all the time, but i returned home after a
trip to find that a power outage had shut it off. after resetting the
surge protector and getting back power, the machine tried to reboot, but
ultimately all i got was

386-BIOS (C) 1987 AMI ...

2048 KB ok  {or something like that-- ie, RAM checks out ok}
Press <DEL> if want to run SETUP or DIAGS  {actually has no effect}

C: drive failure
Run SETUP UTILITY
Press <F1> to RESUME

well, after <F1>, I choose the CMOS SETUP option, but i can't see anything
in the CMOS numbers that looks like it needs adjusting, so i just <ESC> to
save the same old settings. the machine resets, and gives me the same
C: drive failure
Run SETUP UTILITY
Press <F1> to RESUME

i've tried turning the power on and off a few times, to no avail (that
actually worked once, for a different C-drive nonrecognition problem on
this machine). i also went looking in the little DIAGnostics utility, but
it didn't show any recognition of there being a hard drive.

any suggestions?? all constructive replies will be gratefully
appreciated!
