Tuesday March 12th at Dinkelspiel Auditorium, 8:00 p.m.
Faculty Showcase with Fred Berry, Grover Sales, and Tee Carson

Count Basie retrospective
$6 for Stanford students, $10 for Guild members, $12 for non-students

Grover Sales, Stanford's Jazz historian, will be speaking on Count
Basie's influence on the music of jazz, along with Fred Berry,
director of the Jazz Orchestra, who also teaches jazz history at the
College of San Mateo. To give an idea of the true live effect of the
Count Basie Orchestra, the Stanford Jazz Orchestra will be playing
many of the hits that made the Basie Band the standard for all future
big bands to measure against. To take Basie's place on the piano is
Tee Carson, an eminent bay bay area musican who often fills Basie's
shoes with the Count Basie Orchestra, which still plays even now that
the Count has passed. You may have also heard Tee Carson's voice, as
well as his piano recordings, on the local jazz station, KCSM 91.1
where he is a DJ.
